How to Remove Bugs From Your Car Without Damaging the Paint

A summer motorway drive and a front end covered in bugs — everyone knows it. Most drivers leave it "for the next wash". And that's exactly the mistake that costs paint.

Why bugs damage paint

Insect residues are not ordinary dirt. Insect body fluids are acidic, and on a sun-heated bonnet they work like a mild etchant: they dry, harden and gradually eat into the top layer of the clearcoat. After a few days you are no longer washing dirt off the paint — you are looking at a stain in the paint. Hence the simple rule printed on the label of every proper bug remover: bugs come off immediately after the trip.

What not to use

• A dry cloth or sponge — dried bugs are hard, and dry rubbing scratches the paint.
• Household dish soap — it strips the wax and protective layers you actually want on the car.
• Abrasive sponges and scrapers — micro-scratches on the bonnet stay forever.

The right procedure

1. Work on a cool car, in the shade.
2. Before washing, spray a bug remover — for example Titanium Mosquito, which combines cleaning agents and solvents targeted exactly at this type of soiling — on all areas with insect residues: grille, bonnet, mirrors, headlights, windscreen.
3. Let it work for 1–2 minutes. The product softens and lifts the residues.
4. Rinse with high-pressure water.

6. Continue with a normal car wash.
